ATM Studios Bristol is the largest facility of its kind in the city and has been used by artists such as PJ Harvey and Portishead. There are seven sound-proofed rehearsal rooms; an acoustically-designed live room for quality recording with adjoining control room; three technology suites; dance studio; lecture room and DJ booths.

Through a strong staff team and effective leadership, Bristol has an excellent record of qualification success. Tutors are a mixture of experienced music industry professionals and ex-students who have worked with a bewildering range of musical artists including U2, Peter Gabriel, Tina Turner, James Blunt, Amy Winehouse, Crowded House, Beverly Knight, Swervedriver and Squeeze. In addition, staff have recorded for a range of labels from EMI, RCA and Atlantic to Trigger Records, have performed at major national and international music events and have made numerous TV and radio appearances from Top Of The Pops to the Jools Holland Show.

The centre promotes over 33 live events each year, many of which are organised by the students themselves, culminating in an exciting end-of-year Prom. Many of the staff and students are involved in high profile local events such as The Folk House Festival and Ashton Court.

The centre has strong community links with schools and local music businesses as well as exposure on BBC TV, guest speakers from international touring bands such as the Scissor Sisters & Robert Plant’s Sweet Sensation, and high profile involvement in South West Sound.

ATM Studios Bristol also operates as a professional rehearsal and recording studios in the evenings and at weekends. There is also a dance studio for hire as well as dry hire of PA.

Breaking Out
Outbreak Digital is the new charity dance label launched by Bristol student Ian Jay. The label has the support of well-known producers including Technikal, Colin Barratt and Steve Payne, who have agreed to include their tracks and remixes.
All profits will be donated to charities including Cancer Research and the NSPCC. Ian explains: 'My mate went down with cancer at the start of the year and it hit home that it can happen to anyone. A lot of the producers involved in this project have had close family and friends affected and we hope this is a chance as a label to focus not just on making money, but to do something a little different'. Watch out for releases and events in the new year. If you are an ATM student interested in submitting your music email aftershok@gmail.com

US Singer Songwriter, Kevin Montgomery took a break from his world tour to pop into ATM Bristol on in January '08 to speak to students about his career working with Sheryl Crow, The Mavericks and David Crosby. myspace.com/kevinmontgomery2

Guitar legend Albert Lee
was a fantastic host when he invited Bristol students to the Fleece & Firkin to hear him perform and talk about his career.

Students at Bristol had a special visit from Scissor Sisters' keyboard and bass player, John Garden. The Bristol-based session musician has been playing with the band since 2004. Before joining the Scissor Sisters John recorded sessions for Alison Moyet and Alpha (a Bristol band signed to Massive Attack's label).
