Access to Music is the UK's largest national popular music training organisation with over 20 music centres across the country and over 2,000 students. It designs and delivers industry-relevant music courses across further and higher education sectors.

Access to Music is keen to develop music opportunities and work experience/work-based learning for freelance student musicians. This exciting new post will be central to Access to Music achieving this aim.

The appointed person(s) will work under the direction of Access to Music's marketing and events managers on developing this project. Responsibilities will include liaison with the music industry and music organisations (trade bodies, record labels, publishers, promoters, managers, manufacturers etc.) leading to the development of music opportunities and their promotion. It will also include event management activities (gigs, festivals, masterclasses, workshops etc.).

The post is offered as a one-year contract which will be reviewed at the end of the term for possible extension. The role will be based at Access to Music's head office in central Leicester and is offered on either a full-time or job share (part-time) basis.

The role will suit a graduate, or non-graduate, interested in the UK music sector with experience, or a strong interest, in event management/arts administration and project development.

The ideal candidate will have/be:

  • Excellent communications skills;
  • Strong research and data management skills;
  • Familiar with the structure and developments in the modern music industry;
  • Familiar with event logistics and terminology;
  • Strong IT skills (Word, Excel, email and internet);
  • Awareness of marketing methods;
  • Appreciation of new media formats: internet to include websites, mobile technology etc.;
  • Ability to work independently under direction.

PRODUCT REALISATION

2hrs + 1 hour admin x 12 weeks = 36 hours - FDEG 2 semester 1

Access to Music the UK’s largest designer and provider of popular music education are seeking an expert in A&R and music marketing as it relates to popular music industry to join a thriving Foundation Degree team at the British Academy of New Music in East London.

You will be expected to contribute to the ongoing development of marketing and product development at the Academy or show potential to do so.

Experience of teaching in Higher Education is essential. A degree (or equivalent) in commercial music or music marketing is also essential, or relevant experience in the field. You will contribute with imagination and innovation to the Department's wide-ranging curriculum, and whilst specialising in product realisation and marketing, you will be expected to contribute to other aspects of the core curriculum. Expertise in any of the following would be an advantage: A&R (especially desirable), music marketing, professional recording artist (ex or practicing) artist management, music legal.

Candidates whose main expertise is in other areas (associated with the development and marketing of artists within popular music sector) will also be considered.
